The Llandovery Castle on CBC

Listen to the CBC's Sunday Edition's documentary by Alisa Siegal about the Llandovery Castle, To Prepare a Place for You.

"The glowing ship—painted white, festooned with bright lights and large red crosses, unmistakable as a hospital ship—sliced easily through the calm waters for her return voyage to Liverpool.  But on the night of June 27th, just 5 months before the end of the first World War, 100 miles off of the coast of Ireland, the Llandovery Castle was torpedoed by German U-Boat U86. 24 survived. 234 perished. Among the dead, 14 young Canadian nurses. Hopeful, tough, adventurous, merciful. Colleagues and intimate friends."
